Deathcore has been having in the Australians Thy Art Is Murder one of the most proeminent references regarding this spectrum, though not every work of the band can be considered an epitome for the genre, Thy Art Is Murder has proved since day zero that they have talent and can bring a breeze of fresh air to a style that is getting mouldy day by day.
Songs like “Son Of Misery” and “Death Dealer” pummel the listener with a raging uptempo stampede, quite greased with groove, with some room still available for the usual breakdowns and the somber atmosphere: something not so common in deathcore and that can make one think on the death metal of Immolation and Cryptosy. Also worth mentioning is the way the riffs on a track are so well so structured, flowing flawlessly and avoiding something that can be listened to much on other deathcore projects: monotony, thus making “Dear Desolation” a worthy successor for “Holy War”, maintaining the thought-provoking lyrics regarding the Human Condition.
Yet, there’s also a couple of songs that could have been better done: “Man Is The Enemy” is one of those that, if we put it alongside killer tracks like “Fire In The Sky” or “Into Chaos We Climb”, one might say that it gets instantly “killed”
It can never be expected a record such as this one to be the pinnacle of innovation, however “Dear Desolation” brings together the best that deathcore can offer in a very organic and diverse album that, how much far from perfect it is, it still is an honest and solid work.
